Winton - Lark Quarry

Thursday, 11 June 2009
Heading out to Lark Quarry today to have a look at the dinosaur stampede - the kids are very excited. The Curry's were also heading out there this morning, so we all decided to go together.

It is a long and bumpy ride out to Lark Quarry - 110km's of mostly dirt road - probably not too bad in a 4wd but the old truck felt every bump -and the fact that we had to contend with "where are the Curry's?" constantly being asked from the back seat. Eventually we arrived at Lark Quarry, and luckily I had noticed that all the brochures mentioned talking a picnic lunch - because there were no shops out here - and it would not have been much fun hanging out with 5 starting kids all day.

The tour was not what we expected at all - the guide gives you a talk about fossils, dinosaurs and what they have found where and explains what we are about to see - it was a bit long to keep the kids interested. We walk into the room where the stampede took place and you look over the rail all excited to see the footprints.......and.....you look and look? We looked at each other and said "Where?". It was a bit disappointing as it just looks like ground with holes and marks everywhere - it is not until you look at them for a while that you can pick out the dinosaur prints.

The dinosaur stampede was a bit disappointing - but it did give us a good chance to get to know the Curry's some more. Back in the car for another long and bumpy ride home - somehow Logan and Lexie managed to fall asleep.
