Richmond Dinosaurs

We were up early this morning because we had a big day ahead of us - drive through to Richmond (approx 350kms) see the Dinosaur exhibit and then drive through to the next free camp site (50kms) out of Richmond.

When we were about 60kms out of Richmond when I told Chris that I couldn't hold on anymore and he would have to stop for a toilet break - lucky for me there was a rest area not too far up the road. I was out of the truck before it had come to a complete stop. When I finished and returned to the truck, Chris was talking to two council workers and they had told him there was a free camp spot in town and where to find it - that would make it much easier.

We found the camp site, if you could call it that - an empty dirt block owned by the council that they let caravanner's use - although we were the only ones there. We headed back into town then to check out Kronosaurus Korner.

We all really enjoyed Kronosaurus Korner, especially Logan. When you first enter you watch a short movie that tells you about the dinosaurs found, how big they were and what happened to them - the kids were enthralled. After the movie, you each receive a hand held device that gives you a audio review of the exhibits - you typed in the number of the exhibit and it explains what it was, where it was found, what happened to it etc.

All three kids were silent the whole time we were there - they had the device up to their ears and were listening intently. We were lucky that we were the only ones here - so the kids could walk around and look and listen to what they wanted.

Before arriving at Richmond, we had found out that there was a lake - Lake Fred Tritton - that was supposed to be stocked with barra - so Chris and the boys decided it would be worth a look. We all jumped in the truck and took the short drive down the road to the Lake - to say we were a bit disappointed was an understatement - Chris joked that he could cast across the lake - well not quite but almost.

We found out that it was a man-made lake and it was only approx 400m across - and you could ski and put your boat in the lake - must have only been 1 boat at a time!
It was just on dusk - the best time for fishing - so the boys convinced Chris into throwing in a line or two. We walked out onto the little jetty to cast the rods - it was here that Chris told me the boys are not very good at casting and I would have to do it for them. I am on to him - he's hoping that I will catch something and get hooked on fishing - it's a dream of his for us to go fishing together - not going to happen!
It turns out that Jack is really good at casting and enjoyed casting the line in for Logan and Lexie - so that got me off the hook! Unfortunately no fish for dinner - the only thing caught was weed!
