Cloncurry

On the way to Cloncurry we stopped at mcKinlay to have a look at the "Walkabout Creek Hotel" were Crocodile Dundee was filmed. We had been told that it wasn't very flash - but still we expected a bit more than we found.

I thought there would have been movie memorabilia throughout the pub - but unfortunately there wasn't. Only a few photos of Paul Hogan on the walls and that was it - the other strange thing was there was no furniture in the pub either. It had a bar, with no stools, and a pool table that was it - didn't really make you want to stay and have a beer.

So we pushed on for Cloncurry. We were heading to a cheap camping area just out of town called "Wal's Camp". When we arrived there were plenty of other caravaner's there so we decided that this would do us. As usual when we arrive in a new town, we head straight to the information centre to check out what was in town to see and do - not much a couple of museums and a min tour that ony ran two days a week - so we decided that we wouldn't stay here very long.

I was really surprised with Cloncurry, because most people have heard of it, so I thought it would be a fairly big town - but no, it was quite small compared to what I imagined. We are quickly learning that you can never asume a town will be big just because we know of it.

That night we met the "neighbours" and sat around the fire sharing travel tips and stories. We have met so many nice people on the trip and have really enjoyed getting to know them and where they have been and where we "have to go and see"!
