Bundaberg

1 May 2009

Today we headed into Bunbaberg to have a tour of the Rum Distillery - I have to say we were a bit surprised at the entry prices ($62 for family) but decided that seeing as we were here now we may as well (probably what everyone thinks).

We checked the website before leaving home and knew that we had to wear enclosed footwear and could not take in cameras, phones, watches or anything with a battery in it. So we lined up with everyone else waiting for the guide, thinking we had done everything right. We were just about to head into the tour when the guide noticed Lexie's shoes flashing - and yes - we had to take all the kids shoes off (because they had batteries in them) and change them for shoes they provided - which held everyone up.

We finally entered the tour which Chris and I enjoyed, but not sure how much Logan enjoyed it - seeing as he held his nose the whole time - the smell was quite overpowering . We all got to try the molassus, which Chris and Jack liked, but no one else did. It was surprising to see how big and how many ov the Vat's they have full at a time.

The actual fillling of the bottles section was not working while we were there which was a shame because the kids probably would have really enjoyed seeing that. On the way out of the tour the kids noticed bear footprints and were keenly looking our for the Bundy Bear. At the end of the tour they took you through the shop and you could have a try at some of the different types of rum available.
