DEPART: Kippa Ring, Queensland
Spent our last weekend before leaving at Shane and Leigh's at Tweed Heads for a family barbeque. Found it a bit sad saying goodbye to everyone - and of course Mum started the tears first, and what could I do but join in. It was a strange feeling knowing that we may not see some of the family for a year or two.
Arrived back at Kippa Ring, finished packing our last minute things and hitched up the van. Troy came around to wave us off on our big, exciting trip around the country we love - Australia. We had not even hit the road yet and come across our first problem. The stereo system that controlled the camera on the back of the truck and the back of the van was not working. It was a vital part as it helped us hitch up the van and also to see vehicles that were behind us - seeing as we were quite a long vehicle on the road. We thought it was probably just a blown fuse so headed of anyway and decided to get it fixed on the road.
Arrived at our first stop of the trip - Gympie. Not a very exciting stop I know, but we had to stop somewhere for the night. The trip to Gympie went really well and we saw a lot of caravans on the road and were quite surprised when we saw 3 other fifth wheelers. Chris could hardly contain himself during the drive - this was the trip he has been dreaming of for years. All the planning and organising that we have done for the last few months have finally paid off and we are on the trip of a lifetime.
That night we stayed at a free camp spot "Six Mile Creek Rest Area" and was shocked at how cold it was there - time to drag out the big doonas and jumpers and track pants. The next morning Chris took the truck into town to see ifhe could get the stereo repaired. No luck - wasn't a fuse blown, so looks like it was the actual stereo. Will need to look into it more to get it fixed.
