Mossman

Another rough night in the van at Archers Point - an absolutely beautiful place - but the wind is unbearable. Last night we had decided that we would leave this morning, but when I woke up early I heard it sprinkling - not good! I woke Chris up and told him and we jumped out of bed and woke everyone else up to get out of here as quickly as we could. The problem is that because it is a dirt road, the truck doesn't get any traction when the dirt is wet - the last thing we wanted was to get stuck here. I think this has been our quickest pack up to date - must have only been 15minutes and we were in the truck heading off just as it was starting to spit.

It was a good trip to Mossman with a quick brekkie stop on the way. Mossman was only a small town built around a sugar mill - so in the words of the kids "it stinks here!" Up to this point, Mum had been sleeping in Lexie's bed and the kids have been taking turns at sleeping on the lounge - who would have thought that kids would actually argue about whose turn it was to sleep on the lounge. That afternoon we had a walk around town and bought a few more supplies and checked out the information centre.

The next morning we left the van at Mossman and took a day trip to Port Douglas. We had heard from other people that it was the "Hastings Street" of the north and we definitely agreed. It had a real holiday, beachy feel. We had morning tea and walked around the shops before heading up to the lookout. We are now finding out that nearly every town on the coast has it's lookout.

We had also heard, from The Curry Family, that there was a cute little church located on the beach at Port Douglas, so we drove around until we found it - St Mary's by the Sea. It was lovely. While exchange vows, you could see the water and watch boats sail past through the large glass window at the back of the church - how romantic! Lexie was amazed because outside, all over the ground, were rose petals left over from a previous wedding.

On our way back to Mossman we had decided that seeing has we only had a couple more days left until Mum had to fly home, we would splurge and stay at the Big 4 Coconut Cairns Holiday Resort. This place is the flashest of caravan parks around. The kids all let out big cheers in the back seat when they heard the plan. The park has 2 swimming pools, jumping pillows, mini golf, go-karts and more. So the next morning we were up early and away again for our last trip with our extra passenger, Mum.
