The day had arrived, he was all excited, he had all his gear ready and he was off with a quick kiss and a "we hope you catch a barra, Dad" from the boys. When organising the charter yesterday, he had been told that the owner only takes 4 people max and 2 min - however Chris was the only one booked at that stage. He arrived at the boat ramp to find he was the only one booked for the day - so it was only him and the owner. Chris was rapt - this meant he could ask all the fishing questions he wanted.

While he was out fishing the kids, mum and I had a lazy, but windy, day back at the van. We laid on the lounge and watched the ships go past - read our books and generally relaxed. The boys had a great time catching crabs on the beach - you had to laugh at them though - here they are trying to catch the crabs but everytime one got too close to them they would squeal and jump out of the way. In the end they caught quite a few and kept them in the container for the rest of the day. As usual, Logan wanted to keep them forever- he wants to keep everything on this trip - redclaw, crabs, worms, pippies all the really good stuff that would really stink in a day or two!

Later that afternoon, the fisherman arrived home, so we all rushed out to see how he went. All you had to do was look at him and you could see by his big grin that he had a great day. He opened the back of the truck and pulled out the bucket and, can you believe it, it was full of fish! Hooray - he did it - he has spent the day out fishing and has been rewarded for his efforts. Not only did he stock the freezer with fish, but he caught, not one - but two - BARRA'S!!! His first barra catch, the boys has millions of questions for him when he told them - "did he jump out of the water dad?", "why didn't you keep him dad?", "was it good fun dad?"
Chris said it was a great day - they could have caught plenty more fish - but decided that once he had enough for us he would chase the barra's. The owner was similar age to Chris with two young kids so he said they chatted away all day - when Chris told him about our boys, he said he should have brought them along today. What a shame we didn't know that before - Jack and Logan would have loved it - especially seeing dad catch a barra or two!
