Townsville - Riverside Convention Centre

While in Townsville Chris had traded in his old boat and ordered a new boat - but it hadn't arrived yet, so we had to hang around and wait for it to arrive. We had decided that seeing as we would be here for another two weeks, that we would move to a cheaper caravan park that was located in the Riverside Convention Centre run by the Seventh Day Adventists.

After deciding to move, we heard from the Curry family and they were coming to Townsville, so they were going to come and stay with us at the Convention Centre. The kids were jumping up and down when we told them the good news.

Thank god the Curry's were there - the kids all played together and kept each other amused and Chris and Anthony were engrossed in setting up the truck to take the new boat and motor. The new motor didn't fit into the spot where the old one went, so a new box and winch had to be designed and built. They also had to installed and a new winch on the roof of the truck to pull the boat onto the roof. They were in heaven - the two men - coming up with ideas and sharing them and tinkering away all day - it certainly kept them out of our hair!!

Chris would hardly sleep at night thinking about what to do and how to do it and then he would get up in the morning, walk outside and Anthony would say "hey, last night I was thinking....." - they are both as bad as each other.
When we first met the Curry's the kids hit it off instantly - and they did again. The boys were off on their bikes riding around while the two girls would dress up with high heels and handbags and strut around the campsite. We quickly nicknamed them "Paris and Nicole" - they even had the stuffed dogs in their handbags!

One day Anthony set up his MP3 player and put on some Michael Jackson songs and the kids danced and danced and danced. The boys then decided that they would put on a show for the adults. They made tickets and I designed a flyer on the computer which we hung up and they practiced all day. When the time came the girls got dressed up and I painted the boys faces. Logan was the roadie, the two girls were the "Glamour Girls" and Jack and Jack were dancing to "Thriller".

The show was a big hit with all in attendance, the four adults, thoroughly enjoying it.

It finally came time for Chris to pick up the new boat - and once he got it home it was time to test out all the work Chris and Anthony had spent setting up the roof winch. It was nerve wracking, but it worked and got the boat on the roof successfully so it was all good. The next morning Chris and the boys decided they would take the boat out for a test run. They headed off to the boat ramp while Lexie and I stayed back at camp - but not long after Chris rang and asked me if there was a red curly cable with the boat paperwork - he was missing the safety cord that was needed to make the motor start - without it the motor didn't start.

So they had to put the boat back on the trailer and come home to look for the safety cord, which the the boat shop didn't give him. As you can imagine, Chris was not impressed, so after waiting until the boat shop opened he got the safety cord and was off to the boat ramp for a second try. This time they got the boat in water, however by this stage the wind had picked up and it was very rough. At one stage the waves tipped the boat and both the boys slid from one side of the seat to the other and Logan nearly fell out.

Now that we had the new boat, it was time to plan our next destination. After discussions with Anthony and Belinda we decided that we would all travel together to the Wallaman Falls and possibly further. So we packed up and were getting ready to move to Ingham.
