The day has finally arrived - Pa arrives and the V8's start!! It was excitement all around when we woke up and were getting ready. Not long after breakfast we headed to the airport to pick up Pa - hopefully he makes it though ok. Mum told me how she had sent up some presents for the boys which were toy guns left over from Pa's 60th Party and I had joked that he might have trouble getting through the airport when they see them in his suitcase. We waited at the arrival section and saw his plane land.....people started coming out from his flight.....we waited some more.....and waited some more.....Chris and I looked at each other .....and then one of the kids yelled out "I see him!" They rushed over to him for big hugs and we were glad everything was ok.
The next morning we decided we had better get their early to get a good spot on the hill, so we loaded the truck up with
everything and headed to the track. Once we arrived it was a 40minute walk around to the other side of the track to where we wanted to sit - and we were carrying everything - esky, picnic rug, chairs, umbrellas, food, toys - it was crazy, we all felt like our arms were going to fall off when we got there, but we made it and settled in for a good day of racing!
After dropping Pa's suitcase off, we headed off to see the first Townsville 400 - and what a fabulous three days it was. They had the Mini's racing, the Fujitsu series, the Brute utes and off course the V8 Supercars. In between the racing they had lots to watch such as the Army Chinook helicopters flying around, stunt motobrikes, the "Armygeddon" burnout truck (which was the crowd favourite), and the Holden drift utes.
We had decided that the Friday we would walk around and check out the track and choose our possie for the next two days - so we walked.....and walked......and walked. The adults started complaining before the kids! But we had found a hill that we thought we give a good view of the racing and also was right in front of a big screen tv to catch all the replays.

The next day we had decided to get to the track earlier than yesterday to make sure we get a good spot for the main race today - so we were up and leaving the van at 6.30am to be there when the gates opened at 7am - talk about keen
!! But it was all worth it in the end to see Ford win for the day! Last night we received a call from the Curry's (who we met in Winton), they were staying at Bowen and thought that Anthony and Jack might come up to watch the race on the Sunday - so we told them where we would be and to come and find us. Logan and Jack were very excited to see Jack again and they had never watched a race live before so they thoroughly enjoyed themselves too.
The weekend was over far too quickly and we had to say goodbye to Pa and drop him back at the airport - as expected there were tears from the kids as they said goodbye.
